Manikandan is a teaching faculty at Tamil Nadu Rice Research Institute, Aduthurai, Tamil Nadu, India. He graduated from Forest College and Research Institute, TNAU, Mettupalayam; did his Masters in Soil Science. He became a specialist in Remote Sensing and GIS application for soil resource inventory by his doctoral research work. He worked on soil mapping and soil degradation mapping by using Remote Sensing and GIS approach for Tamil Nadu, India. He did more than five years of service at Directorate of Mushroom Research (ICAR), Solan, Himachal Pradesh, India. He has developed a spatial decision support system for mushroom choice for district as basic unit for entire India by exploiting weather data. He is a fellow in the Society of Earth Scientists. His book on “Indian Forestry: A Breakthrough Approach to Forest Service” is well recognized among the students of Forestry. He has published more than 5 books, 15 research articles and 10 popular articles in addition to presenting papers in conference and seminar. At present, he is working on problem soil management, reclamation of salt affected soils, nutrient management in rice and ICT applications in Agriculture.
